Evaluation of cytotoxicity of methanolic extract from Zataria multiflora Boiss. and its fractions on the colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines (Caco-2)
Authors
Abstract:
Background and objectives: ZatariamultifloraBioss. (ZM) has shown several effects in gastrointestinal, respiratory and nervous system. In this study, the effect of Z. multiflora was examined in colon cancer cell lines of Caco-2. Methods: Total extract and petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol fractions of the plant were prepared using warm maceration method based on the complete phenolic compounds. Different concentrations were prepared and examined on caco2 cell lines using (MTT) assay. Results: The extract and fractions of the plant showed the lowest viability at the concentration of 250 μg/mL. In the total plant extract, the lowest viability was 44.6±8.9% in the cell line. In fractions of petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol, the lowest viabilities were (43.12±2.61% and 43.64±2.32% and 43.17±1.82%), respectively. All fractions showed toxicity to the cell line in a concentration dependent manner. The least IC50 was related to the petroleum ether and methanol fractions with IC50 value of (48.60±12.50 and 51.06±12.15 μg/mL) on Caco-2 cell line, respectively. Conclusion: Considering the results, toxicity of the plant was shown on Caco-2 cell line which was due to petroleum ether and methanol fractions and indicated that toxic components of the plant were from both polar and nonpolar ones.

Preventive effect of methanolic extract of Zataria Multiflora Boiss on liver toxicity of paracetamol in rats
Background: The analgesic paracetamol causes a potentially fatal, centrilobular hepatic necrosis when taken in misuse and overdose. This research aimed to evaluate the protective effects of methanolic extract of Zataria Multiflora Boiss (Z. Multiflora) against hepatic damage induced by paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity in male Wistar rats. Methods: for this purpose, paracetamol was administrat...
full textThe effect of Zataria multiflora Boiss hydroalcoholic extract and fractions in pentylenetetrazole-induced kindling in mice
OBJECTIVE At present, there are many antiepileptic drugs with a wide range of side effects on the human body. It was assumed that Zataria multiflora Boiss (Z. multiflora) with sedative, anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory activity may be effective in the treatment of epilepsy. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the effect of Z. multiflora hydroalcoholic extract and its fraction extr...

Background and objectives: Natural products are one of the major sources for investigations of novel medicines. Zataria multiflora Boiss (ZM) has shown pharmacological activities especially in gastrointestinal tract; however, there are limited studies about its cytotoxicity effects. In this study, the effect of Zataria multiflora was examined on two colon canc...

full textthe effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test
in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...
